Description

This project exemplifies distinctiveness of contemporary design… clean, symmetrical lines, supported by solid building elements and integration of natural light from all solar aspects. Aspects of natural cedar cladding, insitu concrete and skylights harness the design for its inclusivity of geometric shapes, amongst sequential feature walls, while allowing clever zoning and functional use of spaces.

Upon being received at the front door, visitors are entranced by the unexpected depth of the property. A clear biophilic line of site is experienced through the breezeway, through feature steel doors, all the way to the rear landscaping. Once further into the home, one endeavours a sense of excitement as they discover the use of colour and abundance of greenery, complimented by tones of brass. Evident in furniture and finishes selection, in particular green terrazzo, the use of colour and textures brings a friendly and joyful feel to the home. The home provides seamless amalgamation of spaces, which encourage family interaction. Each communal space is partnered with natural light and greenery – achieving a connection between the built home and nature. This is also achieved through the use of large openable sliding doors and windows, as well as a mirrored splashback to the kitchen which mimics the view of the outdoors.
This project ensures that no space is unused or forgotten. Each area has become its own feature through the use of exciting materials and soft, rounded forms.

The staircase acts as an anchor point across the 3 level home and creates a bond between the basement and upstairs quarters, while offering a fresh connection to the symmetrical lines of the project. A landscaped courtyard void that falls to the basement allows for passive cooling to the lower level and offers a gateway of natural light. Thermally broken windows are shadowed by cantilevers to shoulder against excessive heat and the project utilises solar hot water to lower the overall environmental footprint of the home. Attention to detail, and innovative design adds to the efficient spatial planning by highlighting each moment experienced through the house. The circular bookcase, lowered terrazzo dining table across from the brass drinks cabinet, and custom LED mirror in the powder room are all examples of these exciting moments that draw you to the space points for interaction, or a peaceful solace moment.

The placement of the staircase underpins the ethos of connectivity within the home and proved to be the catalyst for the unfolding of the entire project. Resonating as the projects heart, the staircase connects with each living zone, depicting an artery that is integral to the function of the home.
