Description

Certain songs evoke happiness, and the Beatles' classic "Good Day Sunshine" perfectly captures the essence of a recent AtelierBond project: an addition to a character home in Adelaide. This 1920s bungalow transformation aimed to maximise natural light for a growing family of four. The primary focus was to create a bright, welcoming living space that would feel open and airy throughout the seasons.

What was once a cramped, poorly planned area has been reimagined into a spacious, light-filled haven. The design features tall ceilings and well-proportioned living zones, all unified by a calming, neutral palette. Clever joinery detailing enhances the stunning oak veneer, while strategically placed stone elements and double-height ceilings forge a seamless connection to the outdoors.

Innovative hidden joinery doors provide unexpected storage solutions and utility areas, maintaining a cohesive design throughout the kitchen facade. Similar joinery languages appear in the master bedroom. This thoughtful integration not only optimizes functionality but also elevates the overall aesthetic. The result is a harmonious blend of modern comfort and classic charm, allowing the family to bask in sunlight and joy, embodying the spirit of "Good Day Sunshine." This transformation is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in enhancing everyday living.
