Description

A home for a builder's own family of 6, located in Torquay, Victoria.
The Riverside house centres around the northern yard and reserve beyond, which is further emphasised by the plunge pool/water feature which ties the main building to the pool room building.
Large areas of eave-protected north glazing work to allow solar passive gain into the main building during the winter months and to exclude hot sun during summer.
The building is anchored to the site via a rammed earth central spine wall that runs externally/internally through the entry area and into the living and kitchen zones. Rammed earth is continued on in the construction of the detached pool room building, so that the visual connection between inside and outside, main building and outbuilding is strengthened.

Low-maintenance materials in corten steel, timber weatherboards and compressed cement sheet make up the low-maintenance and understated palette.
