Description

This new house in South Durras on the South Coast of NSW uses a beautiful palette of robust materials in response to a harsh coastal and bush-fire prone environment. The overall form of the house was intended to represent a crashing wave. In doing this the we were able to make the most of the north facing orientation and wash the house in natural light.

The house is split into two pavilions; the main house, and the guest wing, joined by an expansive entertainment deck. As you enter the main house there are four distinct areas. The entry foyer, the “private” master suite, the “public” living area and the downstairs service area and storerooms.

The entry is our central design feature in this project, the walls and doors are clad with spotted gum timber battens, wrapping into both the public and private areas of the house. The timber cladding draws the eye up and over the stairs, to a frame the view of the beach between the honed concrete block walls.

We are proud that we that we were able to design a house that not only celebrates its surrounding landscape and context but create a bespoke and relaxing environment for the clients.
