Description

This is a classic Victorian London townhouse. Grand at the front, with some large well portioned spaces looking out at the street, but smaller, more difficult spaces at the back, with minimal connection to the garden. This project was for a complete refurbishment of the house, combined with a substantial garden level extension at the back. The clients are young professional couple, just starting a family - they wanted the house to have a certain glamour - whilst still being a practical family home.

The garden extension completely re-orientates the house. The entrance stairs were re-configured to bring you directly down towards a view of the garden, and directly into the new large family kitchen diner. Four floor to ceiling elegant sliding glass doors open the entire back facade to the garden - making the garden feel part of the kitchen and vice versa. Lots of utility space is tucked away down the side of the house, and a large play room/cinema room completes the lower ground floor.
Upstairs, the original big, well proportioned rooms are carefully conserved - most of the original plasterwork kept and/or appropriate details restored where necessary. A generous master suite has its own walk-in wardrobe with its own small Juliet balcony.
