Barnsbury House

A playroom with a view; nestled in the rear light well of this mid C19th Grade II listed town house, the glass lantern provides shelter to this newly formed play space.

The play space is an extension to the lower ground floor kitchen dining room, useful for keeping a watchful eye over young children. The overhead glazing has increased views up to the rear garden. This openness also floods the space with natural daylight. A WC and small utility space are conveniently tucked in, beneath the upper ground floor new extension.

The glass lantern spans the gap between the neighbouring brick wall and the replacement brick closet extension, which has been enlarged to provide additional storage space for cloaks. The transparency of the glass infill helps retain the rhythm of the terrace. With delicate construction details, this intervention respectfully sits beside the historic fabric of the main house.
