Description

We conceptualized this 650 sqft pied-à-terre with a sense of purity, efficiency, precision and lightness. Clean lines, finishes, and contrast drove the design. Starting with a raw singular alcove space, the parti maximized living space, while creating a functional private bedroom to be tucked away for entertaining. The project provides all the comforts and calm of a modern home, bridging residential and hospitality design, in the heart of one of the busiest neighborhoods in New York City.

Questions and Answers

Key products used:

The purity of the design guided all specifications. Light tones and finishes informed the minimal design of custom millwork and selection of stone. Those uncompromising materialities were then complemented by the deep natural tones of the wood floors and softness of furnishings.

What were the key challenges?

The key challenge of this project was balancing program, living/kitchen/entertainment spaces, with private sleeping space, in a limited existing site. One of the key features was the design of a multipurpose multimedia wall, with concealed sliding panels, to generate a flexible threshold between public and private zones.

How is the project unique?

One of the most unique aspects of this project, and in our view it's key success, is it's ability to maximize the sense scale, proportion and space.

Who are the clients and what's interesting about them?

One of the key aspects we embraced working with this client was her love of organization and intentionality thinking about space. Every corner, drawer, shelf, closet was meticulously considered and utilized. This focus was one of the driving factors leading the design process. Every architectural element had fit perfectly for the success of the project.
