Description

The Point Lonsdale House is a linear dwelling composed of four interlinked pavilions, each defined by its own vaulted roof form and which holds within it the separate functions of the home; garage, then sleeping and bathing, then living, then sleeping and bathing. Each of these pavilions is divided by a private courted garden or sheltered deck, which provides the house with a complex relationship to a large number of external living spaces.
The house is designed to behave as an island amongst its surrounding coastal tea scrub, elevated above and cantilevered slightly. Over time the native gardens will lap against and surround its perimeter. The slender house presents a monolithic and roughly textured timber elevation of a single pavilion, while allowing the long northern, private face of the home to be seen as it recedes into garden space deep into the site.

Two Separate sleeping zones of the house link by a central shared living space bringing the occupants of the holiday home together. Central and communal room lifts up spatially to define the shared gathering space of the home. It is entirely and monolithically lined with timber, signifying the living space as the social fulcrum and the heart.
