Description

This small project took a very simple brief - knock out a wall and put in a cupboard - and elevated it to something special.
The work connects a disused bedroom to lovely open living spaces addressing Sydney Harbour, making a place that was once dark and disused an integral light-filled part of the home.
It was trickier than it looks. Located in an apartment building, the structural engineering work to remove the wall between the rooms was detailed and complicated, particularly given the quality outcome we hoped for.
A new portal of high-gloss white frames the opening between rooms, its finish a nod to the hulls and masts of the boats visible from the room, as well as to the owner's nautical background.
Studio Senior was engaged to help elevate the project from the simple to the sublime.
Very neutral finishes were selected to complement the existing character of the apartment.
