study for an extension and refurbishment to an existing dwelling.
The brief was to create a unique and contemporary addition to the period house without loosing the existing charm. Looking to replace an old conservatory, the new ground floor extension spans full with of the property to create a large useable floor plate whilst connecting to the rear garden.
Situated on the east side of the road, the site sits on an east-west axis. With the site orientation, making use of the natural light and merging the external with the internal spaces will be a prominent feature within the design.
The client’s aim is to create a comfortable family home with contemporary features whilst allowing the building to subtly fit in with the surroundings when viewed from the front elevation. As privacy and security is important within a family home, the design will create a balanced relationship between large open living areas and private spaces. With a west facing garden it will be important to maximise the natural light into the new spaces to negate any dark zones.
An open plan kitchen dinning room links into the existing house and sits as the central space to the house and access to the rear garden.
