Description

Brooke Aitken’s client came to her with a brief to remodel the three bathrooms of this Coogee Bay residence, as part of the final component to a broader renovation project on the estate. The residence was previously a maternity hospital, turned strata apartments that Brooke helped transform into a single house. The new bathroom designs were influenced by their heritage surrounds, with each of the bathrooms a showcase of individual personality in the wider heritage context. In order to shape spaces with colour Brooke created pockets of calm through the bathroom wall design. One bathroom was cultivated with a light and airy feel through all white colouring, another featured organic hues of green and the third a rich ocean blue. Each space captured the essence of the serene coastal location in its own unique design. Brooke used a range of design elements, such as mosaic tiles and globally sourced light fittings to build on character. The tiling was delicately handmade and the unique textures and geometrical patterning contained elements linking back to the origins of the historical architectural foundation. The heritage of the estate also provided inspiration for soft, pretty detailing such as the curved sink shape and elegant light fixtures. The original medicine cabinet was developed into a mirror cabinet, to keep historical elements afloat. These contemporary elements amongst more antique like finishes were combined to tie in with the features of the detailed heritage home.
