Description

On a very tight 153m2 site, the house was conceived as a "castle-like" space, where the occupants were sheltered at from the street scape interface at low level via highlight windows and a balance of lightweight (VM Anthra Zinc) and grounding (precast concrete) elements. This led to the provision of compact, functional bedroom and amenity spaces at ground level and allowed for large areas of glazing on the first floor. Extensive joinery throughout provides plentiful storage in a compact home for the 3 person + indoor dog family. The house also benefits from the provision of a fully traffic-able synthetic lawn rooftop, essentially moving the "back yard" onto the rooftop and providing an additional outdoor entertaining space that has ocean views and full northern solar access. The simple material palette ensures that the building is virtually maintenance-free and will age consistently and gracefully with time.
