Description

The design for Gray Puksand studio was a journey of discovery.

Revealing the earnest personality of the organisation, exploring ideas of creativity, and uncovering what drives the Gray Puksand team in their valued profession.

The brief called for a space that fosters collaboration, supports diversity, and enhances creativity while aligning with their core values: People First, Collective Intelligence, Leading Design, Inspiring Outcomes. Uncovering the firm’s personality identified playful frictions where the individual joined with the community. Quiet versus energetic, focus versus collaboration, expression versus context.

Born in the space between the practice’s purpose, and one’s individuality, the ‘Find + Seek’ design balances openness with intimacy. It aims to create an inclusive environment that promotes a playful a sense of discovery and a creative atmosphere that places their people at the forefront by integrating flexibility, neurodiverse work settings, and human-centric design principles.

The rich material palette, featuring warm rust tones inspired by the adjacent Gollin building, fosters a welcoming and warm atmosphere. Unexpected pops of azure and layered textures provide a sense of wonder. A striking metal mesh curtain and perforated mirror ceiling enhances spatial perception. Sinuous curves, and lush greenery create cocooning and ease. High ceilings and expansive 3.8m glazed windows maximise natural light and connect to the urban landscape beyond. Heavy wool drapes allow for privacy and create a moody setting.

This project redefines the modern architecture studio, merging functionality and human-centric design.
