Description

Ollie’s villa renovation involved a complete overhaul of a home that had been renovated in the early 2000s, transforming it into a modern space that catered to the family’s lifestyle of cooking and entertaining, with the kitchen at the heart of the design. The original kitchen, with its dated angled layout and small pantry, was repositioned to a more central location within the home. The circulation was reconfigured by dividing a long central corridor, allowing the kitchen to be moved further back and creating a spacious, easily accessible butler’s pantry. The overall goal was to create a space that was not only visually striking but also highly functional, designed to enhance the family's day-to-day activities and their love for hosting.

The kitchen was designed to be the heart of the home, with a sleek and streamlined layout that focused on both aesthetics and practicality. Custom steel cabinets above the bench created a bold, industrial edge, adding texture and depth to the space while complementing the client’s preference for strong black metal accents. These steel elements seamlessly integrated with the design of the main internal entry, where a custom steel-frame door echoed the same modern, industrial feel. The island bench was a standout feature, designed with a triple-tiered stone edge that gave it a sculptural quality. This unique design not only created a visually appealing focal point but also provided ample space for cooking and entertaining. To enhance the kitchen’s sophistication, brass and black metal accents were carefully mixed, with brass fixtures such as the faucet and sink offering warmth and elegance against the darker tones of the cabinetry. Lighting was a key element in the design, with leather and brass pendant lights suspended above the island, adding both ambient and task lighting. Additionally, LED strip lighting throughout the kitchen highlighted the rich textures of the materials, further elevating the space’s visual appeal.

The butler’s pantry was carefully designed to work in tandem with the kitchen, offering additional storage and preparation space while keeping the main kitchen area free of clutter. The pantry featured a custom barn door, which not only added a rustic touch but also visually connected to the kitchen through its matching colour to the island bench. Inside the pantry, angled produce shelves were designed to allow for easy display and access to fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring both practicality and beauty. The shelves were complemented by V-groove panelling on the walls, which mirrored the design of the kitchen’s steel above-bench display cupboards, creating a seamless flow between the two spaces. A brass sink was incorporated into the pantry, continuing the theme of mixed metals seen throughout the home and adding another layer of sophistication to the space.

Together, the kitchen and butler’s pantry formed the heart of the home, designed to meet the family’s needs for both functionality and style. The rest of the home embraced a cohesive aesthetic, with a cool-toned colour palette featuring rich chocolate floors, deep blues, and marble in shades of white and grey, bringing an elegant yet contemporary feel to the space. Bold design elements such as colour drenching and dynamic marble mosaic tiles were used to create standout areas, particularly in the guest bathroom, entryway, and bathrooms. Custom lighting, especially wall sconces, played a pivotal role in enhancing the atmosphere, creating a warm and inviting environment throughout the home. The mix of brass and black metal accents, along with luxurious materials, helped create a balanced, timeless design that was both beautiful and functional, ultimately making the home a perfect space for the family to entertain, cook, and live in comfort.
