Description

The Ahrens Street family home emerges as a beacon of contemporary living amidst the historic tapestry of the Civic Centre Heritage District. Born from the thoughtful reimagining of a remnant property, this striking residence stands as a testament to both architectural reverence and modern sensibility.

The challenge was profound: to craft a home that seamlessly integrates into the Victorian-era charm of the district while boldly expressing its own contemporary identity. The solution is a three-story marvel, meticulously designed to honor tradition while embracing innovation.

Inspired by the verticality of neighboring Victorian homes, the design rises gracefully to meet the sky, echoing the classic proportions of the era. The extruded gable massing pays homage to the architectural motifs of the past, while maintaining a clear distinction as a product of its time.

Situated within the Civic Centre Heritage District, the design respects the Victorian vernacular while confidently asserting its modernity. The alignment of the ridge line with neighboring peaks ensures a harmonious streetscape, while the composition of windows along the side elevations nods to Victorian design principles.

Inside, the home unfolds with elegance and functionality. The main floor welcomes with open-plan living spaces, while the second floor offers sanctuary in the form of a luxurious master suite and two additional bedrooms. The third level, a versatile attic space, boasts two outdoor terraces for enjoying the surrounding vistas.

Externally, the home is clad in pre-treated kiln-dried wood siding, exuding warmth and texture, while a prefinished standing seam metal roof adds a contemporary flourish. Recessed front and rear facades harmonize with the streetscape, while playful window projections on the side facade add depth and visual interest.

In essence, the Ahrens Street family home is a harmonious fusion of past and present—a true architectural gem within the Civic Centre Heritage District, celebrating the rich heritage of the area while embracing the spirit of contemporary living.
