Description

Situated on a picturesque street of Notting Hill, akub is a Palestinian restaurant celebrating the rich diversity of ingredients and culinary traditions from the region, working with locally sourced British ingredients.

Annie Harrison of Fare INC was responsible for overseeing the challenging transformation of an old townhouse into a home for Palestinian hospitality, designing layered custom verdigris light fittings and bespoke seating in tapestry fabrics to enhance each diner's experience.

Her interiors for the space are a warm embodiment of the Palestinian landscape, using textured wall coverings, olive green upholstery and mottled wood veneers.

The interiors are elevated with calacatta oro marble and mother of pearl tiles, an export from the nation.

The subterranean bar is wrapped in a mural Annie commissioned Tess Newall Studio to hand paint on site, creating a dream like, whimsical cocktail area.

Questions and Answers

How is the project unique?

The restaurant is situated in a residential building, making for a unique layout that allows for pockets of differently styled areas similar to a home.

The lighting for the space was designed in full by the team at Fare Inc, and manufactured within the UK in a bespoke verdigris finish.
