This boom-time terrace, nestled in Melbourne's vibrant inner north, has undergone an impressive transformation, infusing light and life into its once dark and enclosed Victorian-era interior. Despite strict heritage regulations that limited the possibility of external modifications, the internal redesign was executed with ingenuity, enhancing connectivity and creating a harmonious flow between spaces.
One of the standout features is a sleek, black steel window box that punctuates the rear, north-facing façade. This modern addition takes full advantage of the favourable northern orientation, allowing sunlight to flood the contemporary kitchen, making it a bright and welcoming space for family gatherings, and creating a new heart in the home.
The formal reception rooms, once dark and reserved, have been revitalised with the introduction of bold colour, wallpaper, and intricate decoration. Carefully placed new openings onto the grand hallway further brighten these once somber areas, allowing light to flow naturally throughout the home. In contrast, the kitchen and bathrooms feature a simple and refined palette, ensuring a clean and modern aesthetic.
This thoughtful renovation has transformed the once-muted Victorian terrace into a vibrant family home that both honours its historical roots and embraces a contemporary lifestyle, seamlessly blending the past with the present.
