Description

Bayview Restaurant and Bar is situated on a promontory with panoramic views overlooking Lake LBJ. Both the outdoor patio and interior dining rooms are situated to take maximum advantage of the spectacular views available. This project provides an amenity unique to the Horseshoe Bay area: a sleek, modern exterior coupled with expansive, comfortably sophisticated dining rooms.

Located off the entry, the interior bar is an eye-catching and welcoming spot for those looking for a pre-meal cocktail or a sleek spot to hang out. The tiered bar soffit form has a retro feel while the finishes of the bar and back bar provide a contemporary edge. The interior bar is a prelude to the expansive dining room with it's tall and intricate wood ceiling design. A single, large, decorative pendant hangs in the center of the dining room, creating balance and highlighting the space beautifully.

From almost any seat in the house, you can experience the lake view, and if you dine at just the right time, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful sunset. In order to emphasize this interior/exterior connection, biophilic design concepts informed the color palette and material textures used in the project. For example, blues, greens, and browns flow throughout the spaces of Bay View, bringing the outside in, from the wood tones of the millwork to the Texas Limestone that begins on the exterior and wraps inside the entry.

This project is brought forth courtesy of a team composed of local entrepreneurs/developers and a prominent local chef.

Questions and Answers

What was the brief?

To create a hill-top restaurant that capitalizes on a fantastic view of Lake LBJ, and creates an approachable yet upscale experience that has been missing from the Lake LBJ / Marble Falls area.

What were the key challenges?

Fitting a large restaurant on a small hilltop with a myriad of existing buildings.

What were the solutions?

We had an extensive series of test fits trying to establish the most effective way of creating the restaurant our client envisioned, while also determining what of the existing site was to remain. We were able to reuse the largest structure (where the dining room is) and the most significant tree (over the patio) while getting the size and design all parties were happy with.
