CASA ORTEGA

The presence of the void, in which we conceptualize the garden as a lamp, allowed us to think of a proposal based on the question, “how does the lighting in the house affect space?”

The Ortega House-Garden is a space designed and built between 1940 and 1942 in Mexico City by reknown architect Luis Barragán. It is an unmodified testimony that

encompasses the idea that relates to architecture and its relationship to gardens, which are extensions of the interior.

This intervention is part of "Iluminating the Ortega House-Garden and Luis Barragán" , where various lighting designers and architects take the gardens of the Ortega House-Garden as a stage and inspiration to honor the unparaleled vision of Luis Barragán in light and architecture.

A sculpture, located in the Perol Patio, reflects the fenestration of the patio itself and illustrates how changes in light that naturally occurs throughout the day can affect the appearance of the garden. Comprised of 12 Ketra luminaires and moderated by the Athena lighting control system, this patio structure is transformed by light and the sensation of movement during a 20-minute performance that cycles through various color temperatures of white light and in shades of red and orange reminiscent of the sunset, before culminating in a deep blue, reminiscent of the night.

"A dialogue with time, through the windows, like a fixed movement. The window is created as a space, a container of time, with its movements, intensities and colors, flooding the room with unpredictable moments. The light phenomena interact in the gap between the sale and the presence of the built context."
