Description

Courtyard House 2 was the middle Victorian terrace in a row of 8. We had no available light on either side, with the only real available light coming from the rear. This project was an exploration of how we could bring light into the living areas. The location is also very dense which created issues of overshadowing neighbouring blocks.
We packed a lot into the available footprint.

Questions and Answers

What was the brief?

The brief was to create a light filled home for a growing family. which is simpler than it sounds! Being a middle terrace restricted the light access to front and rear. The house is also within a conservation zone which means we cannot change the frontage. so all light had to come in through the rear.
The owners loved our Courtyard House 1.

Key products used:

Colorbond standing seam cladding + Tongue and Groove timber flooring

What were the key challenges?

Council was challenging on the project.

What are the sustainability features?

The concrete slab was selected for thermal comfort. solar panels were also installed.
