Description

Chrome Flat transforms a dated brick apartment into a modern haven that blends functionality with mid-century charm. The clients, passionate about entertaining, sought a home that optimised flow, storage, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

The kitchen was reconfigured to increase both workspace and storage. Custom warm-tone veneer cabinetry was introduced, featuring recessed handles created specifically for the project and integrated into the protruded frame detail. Tonal white tiles with natural flecks add texture to the space, while contrasting stainless steel benchtops enhance the overall design. Custom features, such as a pot hanger and formed stainless steel sink, showcase meticulous attention to detail and elevate the kitchen’s functionality and aesthetic.

A central feature of the transformation was the balcony access. A large sliding door now connects the interior to the outdoors, cleverly mimicking the previous window and door framing to meet body corporate requirements. This allowed the dining area to be relocated, while also enabling the kitchen to be extended. The result is a dedicated breakfast bar and dining space, enhancing the apartment’s spatial dynamics and improving flow for social gatherings.

The bathroom follows the same design principles, featuring deep green handmade tiles, a brushed stainless steel basin, and a striking green terrazzo undermounted bath. Polished concrete flooring replaces the original carpet, providing a durable and low-maintenance surface across all communal areas, including the bathroom, kitchen, dining, living, and balcony spaces. The original concrete ceiling, with set lighting locations, was battened and dropped to allow for intentional lighting placement, highlighting the home’s thoughtful design.

Overall, Chrome Flat celebrates modern living with a nod to mid-century aesthetics, creating a cohesive home where style, functionality, and indoor-outdoor connectivity are perfectly balanced.
