The Bruhn site was incredible from the start, it was a double fronted two-story Federation terrace house. On a big site for Alexandria, It had large scale rooms which were saturated with original features. To the front section of the house there were beautiful floor boards, archways, detailed stair case and cornices, all buried under layers of paint, wallpaper and patterned carpet.
Our client was looking for a vibrant, family friendly home. They wanted lots of glass, lots of North light, lots of greenery and a feeling of spaciousness with a touch of mid century modern thrown in. We all also loved Brazilian residential architecture, where entire walls slid away and the inside and outside became one.
My clients wanted to feel like they were on holiday, everyday.
Key products used:
Acacia windows (timber)
Home life furnishings (curtains/external blinds)
Floors existing house: existing timber
New floors: travertine
Bathroom tiles: Academy Tiles
Builder: Loch Build
What was the brief?
The brieft was to build a 4 bedroom home which was special, flooded with sunlights, connected to the outdoors and family friendly.
The style had links to both mid- centuty modern and Brazilian architecutral homes.
What were the key challenges?
We used a cost plus contract on this project which for me was difficult to manage and monitor. We most often use a fixed priced contract. So keeping tabs of the relevant information and payments was hard.
