GA house is a home built in 1959 first in a new estate in Grange, the previous owners being the client’s aunt and uncle. The philosophy of the renovation was to establish a good relationship with the existing structure celebrating the original sixties architecture and the wider family’s sentimental association with the home.
Merging of materials, finishes and new spaces where bedrooms and kitchen were relocated and a new addition to the street was created. The kitchen, now the focal point and heart of the house, services both living areas and entertainment areas. Retractable doors form a seamless threshold between inside and out. Existing materials were used as a cue integrating new finishes applied in an honest manner.
The remodelled home now suits the immediate family’s needs with a wider family benefit of maintaining the spirit of what has now become a family heirloom.
