Description

A family real estate office for avid art collectors. The space was designed to a gallery like feel - a simple, blank interior that is brought to life by the art. Emphasis was placed on a reduced material palette and minimal detailing to create a serene environment. Flexibility was also integral to our program - the office needs to function for 4 people (average) but be able to grow to a team of 16.

Questions and Answers

What were the key challenges?

Working within the constraints of an older building - the floor plan was very much dictated by the structural columns, but given the large spans we were able to open up the floor plan and create an open/ communal space for gathering.

Orientation of offices was a prime consideration - private offices were stacked on the South to get the natural light. As this project is on the second floor we are able to utilize the street trees to provide natural shading and relief from the sun. The open space is North facing with views of the city, which allows for the soft northern daylight to enter the space.
