These long-time clients, art collectors and avid gardeners were looking to renovate the main floor of their Arts & Crafts era home to bring in more natural light and create a better connection between the home’s many social spaces. By eliminating all solid elements along the rear façade, and introducing full height glazing, natural light now floods the principal spaces, while the introduction of large-scale skylights funnels light into the previously dim central lounge. A warm, limited palette of materials anchors the backgrounds allowing focus to rest on their collection of art, and views to the garden beyond. In the kitchen, a site-specific ceramic art piece - commissioned from Parisian artist Armelle Benoit - adds eclectic charm to the simplicity of the millwork. The décor, reflecting the client’s appreciation for colour, creates a sense of ease and brings the joyfulness of their garden’s blooms into the heart of their home. The dining room and lounge areas were revitalized with updated wall finishes to breathe new life into much beloved areas for welcoming friends and family or curling up with books from their vast library of literature and financial publications. Overall, the home is elevated to meet the homeowners love of gardening, cooking and entertaining,
What was the primary vision behind the Forest Hill Refresh renovation, and how does it aim to enhance the living experience for its residents?
The vision was to elevate our client's home to cater to their passions -primarily gardening and cooking. Transforming the back wall to windows allows for wonderful views to their garden, and the tailored custom kitchen improves the functionality of the space.
