A large residential Gentlemen’s bungalow sited in Lockleys had numerous poor alterations and additions. The client’s qualitative components of the brief were a direct reflection of their living experience. Limited daylighting, minimal solar gain to living spaces and the poor utilisation and quality of outdoor space. Quantitatively the brief did not require a lot more area, predominately the problem was how to reconfigure the amenity of these spaces.
The core values were to remove all previous scarring of the Bungalow and restore it to a state where it could be celebrated. The design of the new built work is sensitive to the Bungalow with gentle integration and separation of a new pavilion, giving the Bungalow the ability to breathe on the site.
The success of the project can be contributed to working closely with the consultants, builder and trades. The philosophy was conveyed to every member of the project team, which helped find solutions to piecing together an integrated approach to restoration, landscape, structure and finish.
