We relocated the dining zone within the open plan 'L' shaped space to create a cosy inward looking sensibility in the living room and maximise connection with the tree scape when dining. The space previously used as a dining space is now used as a reading nook.

Description

Monty’s Treehouse is located in the leafy suburb of Montmorency, Victoria.

Leaning on the strong palette inherited with the home, the team used furniture and art curation to layer each space and create a warmth which resonates throughout.

The 70’s home has been largely untouched - the timber lined walls, ceiling and floor; modest original kitchen; and large spans of window were all passed on with the home, setting the trajectory for our interior curation.

With each room thoughtfully curated, a profound connection with the surrounding landscape is maintained, while offering spaces that invite joy and appreciation across all seasons. Situating the dining table in the corner of the L-shaped living zone meant the family could enjoy two seperate living areas in quite a compact space. This layout also gave diners a view out over the deck's railing and gave the living room/sofa area cosy, cabin like containment.

Pieces collected and re-imagined mixed with new contemporary forms helped balance the honesty of the building while making it relevant to her family today.

Minimal architectural lighting meant leaning heavily on decorative lamps, which brought the focus inward in the evening, a welcome contrast to the expansive outlook enjoyed throughout the day.

Monty’s Treehouse served as the family home of Sarah Shinners and her family for two years and will be remembered fondly.
