New York brownstone renovation, with refined style and European inspired interiors. We asked ourselves with the design, what's the best of both styles, cultures, histories and aesthetics. How can the varying design attributes all work in harmony, occupy areas of autonomy within the design in moments, while coexisting seamlessly throughout very personal spaces?
The design brief was simple in theory, complex in execution. Our client requested the design thematic, “Italian design, meets classic New York character" - - which in New York City terms dictated a sleek minimal design and modern open living concept, while respecting the historic urban context and providing warm residential atmosphere. Through a consistent interweaving of materiality, program, light and nature, the design created a seamless flow of contiguous spaces through the vertical section of the townhouse typology.
Natural marbles were sourced from Italy to provide a consistency of hearth and overall residential warmth of six fireplaces. American natural wood tones, elm, oak and walnut woods, were woven through horizontal and vertical surfaces for comfort and an organic tactility. Refined custom cabinetry and fixtures were sourced from Italy and beyond, elevating the New York aesthetic.
The resulting home contains four bedrooms, five bathrooms, an art gallery and spaces for entertainment, private living and dining spaces, exterior terraces, library and a studio. No detail was overlooked in this truly one of a
kind townhome.
