Description

Use the Good Plates involved an extensive renovation to create a cohesive family kitchen while injecting everyday glamour into a functional space. This historic 1880s former brewery had been subject to several mishmash renovations, resulting in a disjointed floorplan that included two separate but adjoining kitchens.

AtelierBond was tasked with unravelling the complex layout and unifying the mainstay space in this young family’s life and the couple’s eclectic tastes. The project's ethos is embracing the moment and not waiting for special occasions to gather in style. Light that fancy candle and bring out the gift registry wine glasses to enable connection over a shared meal. It's about living in the now.

AtelierBond has rethought how the kitchen interacted with the rest of the home. Redesigning its approach to how the family lived was vital. Skilful handling was needed of their materials brief—including brass, marble, and dark-toned timber—which all had to harmoniously marry with their call for bold colour choices. Its Palladian floor is a highlight. Uniquely crafted of marble offcuts, honouring the mansion's many past incarnations while grounding its latest addition as a destination to pause and linger. Our studio wanted the kitchen to carry its eclecticism and reflect the client's lifestyle. Despite the kaleidoscope of elements, it sits seamlessly within the existing, adding yet another chapter to the storied history of the home.
